HOW TO IDENTIFY SPITTLEBUG / FROGHOPPER AND LEAFHOPPER SPECIES
There are around 18 species of xylem-feeding insects (froghoppers and leafhoppers) that could act as potential vectors for Xylella fastidiosa in the UK. Froghoppers, also known as spittlebugs, are easily spotted as nymphs by the frothy white spittle, or 'cuckoo spit' they produce on plants. Here's a handy guide to identifying nymphs in spittle:
